An Unlikely Suitor by Nancy Moser

My Review:5 STARS

This is the second book that I've read by Nancy Moser. I liked the first book I read, Masquerade, but I never loved it and it fell short on some levels but I really enjoyed An Unlikely Suitor a whole lot more than Masquerade!

Once again Nancy is describing the Gilded Age in her historical romance and there are some great lessons to be learned and also some characters to fall in love with! I was so surprised to read that the main characters where the Scarpelli's, which happen to be the Italian family mentioned in her other book Masquerade so I instantly formed a connection with Lucy, her mamma and her sister Sophia. Lucy, her mom and sister are all Italian immigrants that are now seamstresses for a new dress shop that designs and makes dresses for some of the wealthiest ladies on NYC. Lucy befriends one of the customers when she looks beyond her cripple and being friends with Rowena will change the path for all of the Scarpelli's and Rowena also!

One of the things I loved most about An Unlikely Suitor was the characters! Lucy is genuine and lovable character right from the start. Being the oldest child she takes on the responsibility of taking care of her family and is always putting off her needs and desires to help her mom and sister-very admirable! Plus she loves everyone and is passionate about justice and doing the right thing! The other characters in the story were also very realistic, although at times the younger sister Sophia drove me crazy!

Another thing I loved about this book was historical glimpses you received throughout! This is a story about immigrants that struggle along with the socialite during the 19th century, a tale of the difference of the wealthy and working class. I was saddened by the way the working class had to struggle to survive and to fit in to the American way!

The romance was sweet and lovable. I especially loved what bloomed between Lucy and "Dante"! I had a bit of a hard time believing the ending of the three romances a bit but it didn't deter me really enjoying the story!

So glad I decided to give Nancy Moser another shot because I really did enjoy the historical threads, the mystery and the romance that blooms in An Unlikely Suitor!

Thank you to Bethany House for providing me a free copy of this book for my personal and honest review and opinion!
