My Review:
5 STARS
I can honestly say that I just love this new series by Jamie Carie tilted the Forgotten Castles, it is absolutely delicious!! The Forgiven Duke is book 2 in the series and picks up right where we left off from The Guardian Duke. Alexandria is still on her dangerous quest to find her parents alive and is now sailing for Iceland with her fiancé' John. Alex struggles with doubt about her relationship with John and whether or not he is the right man for her when she is constantly thinking about her guardian Gabriel.
Gabriel is more convinced than ever that he must keep Alexandria safe and when he sees her sail away with John he is determined to find her and warn of the severe danger she's in because of the treasure her parents were looking for and its importance. He is also struggling with being deaf. He feels if Alexandria learns about his disability that she will not care for him like she does now.
As the story progresses both Gabriel and Alexandria have their faith tested. They struggle to rely on God but learn leaning on Him will provide the strength you need. I liked watching the characters grow and develop as believers, their struggles were realistic. Even though there was Christian tones and messages throughout the book, I didn't find it overly preachy.
The Forgiven Duke is very much a historical romance but there also so much more to the story. There is a mystery that continues to grow and suspense that has you guessing until the end. At the end of this book I feel momentarily satisfied but also anxious to read book three to continue the story!!
